There’s something magical about a beach day on St. Croix. Maybe it’s the way the light hits the water just right, the feel of warm sand under your feet, or the rhythm of the waves echoing the laid-back pace of island life. This is your invitation to slow down and savor the beauty of the day—one beach at a time.
Here’s how to plan the perfect beach day, St. Croix-style:
🌞 Start at Shoy’s Beach
Secluded and serene, Shoy’s is where you go when you want peace and quiet. The beach is tucked behind The Buccaneer resort, with soft white sand, calm waters, and just the right amount of shade. Take the tree-lined path from the parking area and prepare to be greeted by one of the island’s hidden gems. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to put your phone away and just be present.
Morning tip: Pick up a smoothie or coffee at The Bistro in Gallows Bay before heading out.
🐚 Midday at Cane Bay
Next stop: the north shore. Cane Bay is the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Lay out a towel, go for a swim, or grab your snorkel and explore the famous Cane Bay Wall, one of the top dive spots in the Caribbean. It’s a place where the breeze, the beach, and the energy all seem to harmonize.
Lunch break idea: Cross the road for lunch with a view. The Landing offers casual bites and cold drinks just steps from the sand.
🌈 Afternoon Fun at Rainbow Beach
Head west to Frederiksted for the kind of beach afternoon that postcards are made of. Rainbow Beach lives up to its name, with vibrant skies, soft sand, and calm water perfect for paddleboarding or just floating the afternoon away.
Stick around long enough and you might catch an impromptu beach volleyball game or live music on Sundays.
🌅 Wrap It Up at Sandy Point (When Open)
If the timing is right and it’s the season, make your final stop at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge. This stunning stretch of untouched beach is typically open to the public on weekends from September through March, during non-nesting season. It's currently closed for the month of June to protect endangered sea turtles during nesting.
You can check current access dates and visitor info here.
🎒 Beach Day Essentials: Don’t Forget!
Reef-safe sunscreen
Lots of water
A hat, towel, and maybe a beach chair
Your favorite playlist—or just the sound of the waves
Snacks to share (and extra napkins if you’re bringing mangoes)
St. Croix isn’t just a place. It’s a feeling. And there’s no better way to connect with that feeling than a full day spent soaking up the island’s best beaches. Whether you're chasing fish through the reef, watching the sun slip below the horizon, or just enjoying the breeze, each moment here reminds you how special this place truly is.
So grab your sandals and make a day of it. The beach is calling. 🏖️
